Why The Heat Makes You Feel So Cranky
Are high temperatures making you irritable? The heat can not only make you feel sweaty, tired and thirsty but can impact your mental health too. Many studies have linked the summer heat with aggression, violence, harassment in the workplace and mental health crises. The heat has been proven to produce an increased amount of hormones that cause stress and anxiety - this is your body helping you cope. When the temperature hits over 90°F, the rates of workplace harassment rise. Extreme heat can impact a person’s overall mood and make them less likely to feel positive emotions, like joy. Look after your physical and mental self in the heat. Drink lots of water and find ways to stay cool. Sleeping in the heat can be hard and throw off your sleep schedule. Try having a fan in your room or sleeping with a cooling mattress topper. Also, take time to acknowledge what's happening. Know that this discomfort and heat-related anger can be resolved.
